People Express is a professional arts organisation, based in Swadlincote, that works primarily with and for the communities of South Derbyshire. People Express believe that everyone has creative potential.
Our job is to help create the projects and bring together the artists that will inspire and support people to take part in the arts, design and make their own artwork and use these achievements to help make positive changes to their lives and the communities around them. People Express is here to help you get involved in the arts.
Here’s up to date images of our new building, which will contain a workshop space and media suite to run exciting workshops for the community and individuals. We hopefully will be in the premises by September ready for our annual AGM on 23rd September.

The beautiful murals created at Banks House in December are on display at Sharpe’s Pottery, Swadlincote, in the Bottle Kiln. They were created by members of the South Derbyshire Mental Health Association with the support of experienced artists Seema Gill and Richard Heley.
So … why don’t you pop along and have a look.
Banks House Mural, a swirl of seascapes and landscapes.
A Bank House Project
In December 2009 South Derbyshire based professional film makers, Deb Haywood and John Abbot, interviewed on camera members of the South Derbyshire Mental Health Association talking about their experiences (good and bad) of the Health and Social Services. The project was commissioned by Derbyshire LINk (a government funded watchdog for the Services) to provide creative footage and capture valuable insights of services that can be incorporated into their web-site.
To help participants relax on camera the project also included mural painting sessions with Seema Gill and Richard Heley (the art work is now on display in the kiln at Sharpe’s Pottery) and banner making with textile and craft worker Philippa Day. High Peak Community Arts developed the project; People Express is a partner along with Junction Arts. It is the first time we have worked with High Peak and Junction on a Derbyshire-wide project.
The mural created is exhibited in the kiln at Sharpe’s Pottery.
People Express have been running a storytelling project in Hatton with experienced storyteller, Richard Healey, and animator, Rob Webster. The story is developed and written by the young people from the ‘Youth of Hatton‘ group, who meet regularly, and is called ‘Keep Your Hat On!’ Now the story is completed the group is very busy creating characters and props to bring their story alive through animation. The project has been made possible through the generous support of volunteers and funded by the Trusthouse Charitable Foundation. The‘Keep Your Hat On!’ film will be shown at a community event in June.
